Homeless Shelter. Supportive Housing. Employment and Training. Food Bank

The Homeless Brigade Veteran's Homeless Shelter is a 17 bed not-for-profit transitional living facility located in Citrus County,Florida. We provide assistance to U.S. veterans of any era the opportunity to return to useful and productive lives by providing them with the skills for independent living. Our policy will be “whatever it takes “ to get them the benefits and help that they deserve.

The Facility has opened to twelve Florida Veterans with their proper DD 214'S. We are now able to get the paperwork for those who have lost them due to homelessness in days. No one will be allowed to remain in the facility without them..

The biggest expense we now face is another sprinkler system.

The Mission in Citrus can not do this alone. We are hoping to work together with the Citrus County Florida Veterans Coalition , the Citrus County Florida Veterans Foundation ,the Counties Veteran's Service office, and the many other Veteran's groups in the County.

The Homeless Brigade is open to all those who wish to visit. Our policy encourages and supports social interaction. It also allows donors to see where their support goes , and how it is used. We will be starting our Wall of Honor for those who wish to support us and honor a loved one. The Wall is still available if you can not afford to help us.

We are very thankful to the groups that have already stood forward to help. The Mission in Citrus will formally thank these groups as time allows. We ask for your patience as no one is paid at any of our shelters , and we do our best to save money..That includes our own website. Most of us are wrapping up an 80 hour plus work week..

Our Mission is Helping Veterans

Our Mission is to serve those who honorably served us, and to give them the respect and dignity they deserve.

In our opinion, there shouldn't be one former soldier forgotten. They should have the assurance of having a warm bed to sleep in and a place to call home. The shelter will be operated by formerly homeless Veteran's with the knowledge and experience needed, to address the problems that they once faced.

We invite you to share in our desire to offer aid and assistance to Veterans of the United States Armed Forces who have fallen victim to one of our society's greatest ailments: Homelessness

What Is A Veteran?

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, honorably discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.

How Many Homeless Veterans?

In June 2008, the Homelessness Research Institute released a 2007 Data Update of Ending Homelessness Among Veterans

Approximately 154,000 veterans were homeless on a given night in 2007. In March 2009, the VA released the 2008 CHALENG data, reporting that approximately 131,230 veterans were homeless on a given night in 2008.

The reduction from 154,000 homeless veterans in 2007 to 131,000 homeless veterans in 2008 is primarily the result of continued refinement of estimation and data collection methods, not reductions in the actual number of homeless veterans.

Florida had over 10,000 homeless Vets in 2009..The second highest in America.
